August 3.The fire protection technical directive entitled Protection against the spread of fire has been expanded Photo: Szőke Péter BM OKF Taking into account the suggestions of fire protection experts, a working group prepared an amendment to the Technical Directive on Fire Protection against the Spread of Fire. The provisions of the amendment, developed jointly by the staff of the Fire Protection and Fire Prevention Department of the National Directorate General for Disaster Management of the Ministry of the Interior, with the involvement of external experts, can be applied from 20 July 2020. The Fire Protection Technical Directive contains several important amendments. In the future, it will help designers and experts with the question of which parts of a building within opposite fire facades will not affect the spread of fire. Thus, these parts of the building, if certain conditions are met, do not have to be taken into account when calculating the fire distance. The directive includes new solutions for the design of hanging corridors and balconies protruding from the façade plane on facades belonging to different fire sections that meet at an angle of more than 120 °, in order to prevent the spread of fire. Among the levels belonging to the same fire section, the range of solutions for providing protection against the spread of facade fire (curtain wall and the structure of the associated fire barrier) as well as solutions for the penetration of building services pipes and electrical fittings have also been expanded. In the fire protection technical directive, the designs of roofs planted with plants, the conditions of the appropriate fire-retardant linear joint sealing, and the construction structures suitable for the design of shaft walls bearing the load of mechanical fittings have been published. The annex has been expanded with the design of fire protection seals for mechanical cable entries, the proposed solutions for fire barriers, the conditions for the design of appropriate fire protection seals, photographs showing good construction examples have been included in the directive, and users can find a sample document for installation.
